Inch by inch, Alex edged Dee’s crop-top up exposing a tanned midriff. His breath strangled in his throat at the sight of Dee’s white-gold belly ring. Her magnificent breasts rounded to perfect high mounds as she lay against the smoky counter. The shirt fluttered, and the firm white underside of her breasts peeked out from the cotton fabric. She wasn’t wearing a bra. Alex’s cock thanked the gods by doing a pagan dance against his stomach. Sunlight slipped over the countertop. A stray silver beam highlighted a faint circle of iridescent hair dusting a peculiar halo around Dee’s navel. Alex swallowed when her belly ring winked at him, the marquise diamond sparkling in the morning sun. He poured the amber liquid into a shot glass with his left hand and slipped the bottle onto the granite surface. Alex upended the small tumbler centering it perfectly over Dee’s belly button. He bent his head to her stomach and suckled avariciously. The liquor had a sharp bite to it, and her skin radiated heat. His tongue trailed around the circumference of her navel lingering on the surface of the small diamond. Dee’s hot flesh smelled of suntan lotion, the fruity kind made for tasting. Alex’s palm slipped, cupping her left side, his thumb caressing circles, and he gave up striving for any semblance of control. He forced his face away from her smooth, flat belly. His groin tightened. The kitchen buzzed with conversation, and the others stood in the doorway hollering encouraging comments. It all faded into the background. In a peculiar dazed trance, Alex touched his forefinger to Dee’s stomach. A slight graze. Her muscles contracted at once. Alex stared. His finger stroked a small circle on her belly. Same reaction as before. His mouth curved with satisfaction. On the second shot, his tongue developed a mind of its own licking a path along her lower belly. Alex waited for the slight undulation as Dee’s muscles quivered to his touch. His hands spanned her narrow waist on the third shot tracing the outline of her hip. “I think three shots are enough, buddy.” Jake slapped him on the back. The Tequila bottle tilted forward and spilled. A long rivulet ran down Dee’s stomach disappearing under the waistband of her cut-offs. Alex shoved the bottle against the wall, placed his hands on the outside of her shoulders, and whispered in Dee’s ear. “I’m gonna lick the Tequila off your pussy before we leave here this morning, sweetheart.”

Like all best-laid plans, things begin to go screwy from the start. Alex won’t cooperate, her healing powers are not that easy to lose, and Butch is guilty of more than Dee knows.
This story is full of twists and turns with excitement in every page. The description of Carnival is so erotic because of the author’s description of the events that transpire. I was so into the party that I felt as if I were standing in the street doing the winning dance. Jianne Carlo has created a world with wonderful characters and several story styles, with suspense, time-travel, etc. that will keep all readers interested.

I did not read the first book in the series, but was not lost for a minute. This story can stand alone, but it won't be there for long! My eBook reader is panting for the first installment, Tee and Jake's story. Ms. Carlo is excellent at juggling a complicated story with so many details. This reviewer is in awe of her abilities and CANNOT explain in this small space how very much I enjoyed this book! I have a tendency to get bogged down in "world building" and will skip paragraphs at a time in order to get to the meat of the story. Not in this story...I did not skip one word! Magic, mayhem, and romance, this fascinating and touching story has a little bit of everything.

The main couple of this story was first introduced to us in T is for Temptation, the first book in the Witchy Women series, as secondary characters. And while D is For Desire can be read alone, I would recommend that you pick up the first one unless you don’t mind a few spoilers.

As for this story, the feisty heroine of the story is Dee Bloom, the acting Attorney General of Barbados, who also just happens to be a witch with the ability to heal others. Dee is very career-focused and determined to succeed at her job and goals. Her current goal is to see a known murderer and drug-lord brought down for his crimes and she is willing to do anything to make it happen…even use herself as bait.

Because of her goals and job, she has no time for a relationship, but when she meets up with Alex Mayfield, an attorney from the U.S., at their friends’ home during Carnival in Trinidad sparks fly and the two feel a connection and passion they can’t deny. Having met Dee at their friends’ wedding and talking with her over the last few months, Alex Mayfield is obsessed with wanting Dee, but is very much a playboy and she is not sure she can trust him. But the hedonistic activities of Carnival soon lead the two to explore the passion between them. But a tragic event changes everything for the pair as Dee is forced to use her healing abilities as a witch and soon the couple parts ways.

As time passes, Alex is still determined to win over Dee, but she continues to focus on her job and mission to bring down a drug-lord murderer, but things don’t quite go as planned when Dee gets some unexpected news and her life is put in jeopardy.

As secrets and omissions threaten to destroy the couple’s budding relationship, the couple faces quite a few unexpected events and each new revelation surprised and enthralled me. I could hardly wait to see what would happen next in this twist-filled story. Dee and Alex make for an interesting couple as both are headstrong individuals who seem to want different things out of life, but who are actually perfect for one another. I wasn’t quite sure about Alex at first but he goes from being a bit of an egotistical jerk to a kind man as the story progresses. He shows great growth and development throughout the story as does Dee as she adjusts to the many changes in her life. I really enjoyed their relationships with one another as well as with the other characters of the story.

Some of the events of the story are quite emotional and I found myself wiping my eyes a time or two. This story and its characters will really touch you and pull at the heartstrings. But even with the emotional and heartbreaking events, there is still some humor and levity to the story that I found quite enjoyable and well-placed.
