Doctor Henry Houston tries to help two Civil War reenactor friends. Being in federal detention was the last thing he imagined.
The Doc is a conspiracy thriller involving Civil War reenactor Dana Sweet who wrote a Master's Thesis entitled Control Thesis. In her paper she exposes a federally funded domestic surrveilance/black ops squad. Dana's father, Matthew Sweet is also a Civil War reenactor, is a patient and friend of Henry "Hank" Houston, MD, in California. Matthew asked for Hank Houston to help. The story opens with Hank in detention and undergoing chemical interrogation at a facility known as the SRI - acronym for Safety Research Institute. From this beginning, Hank tried to hang on to his mental condition by remembering the past events. In a series of alternating flashbacks and real time, the story is told.

“Then there’s the staff,” Hank said. “The following staffers are in the SRI unit at the FAO site. They are very professional, serious yet friendly, have a sense of humor, and work long hours. They have come to SRI with various backgrounds of education and training, some military, some urban law enforcement, some law, and one medical doctor. These are the SRI staff I know:
Phillip Press, manager and leader. Others are Glen Doll, Bill Grander, Harold Springs, Cullman Green, Larry Cole, Terry Graf, MD. The one thing that I think is safe to say, from what I’ve learned about them and the SRI, is that the SRI existence and the mission of this FAO unit alone may validate my hypothesis. The men listed above are each and every one of them, individually, killers.”
The psych doc was startled then, but hid his reaction. He did interrupt Hank and said, “She actually wrote that?”
