I wrote this as a memorial for a wonderful little green parakeet that graced our family for a short year. He managed to live the equivalent of five years in that short time and is fondly remembered today.

If I could have one thing gained
from my childhood I would wish for every
child to have the experiences with the
animal world that I had in my years
growing up. We, as a family, always had
an assortment of lovable, huggable
‘critters’ to give companionship and
comfort when needed. Most of these
‘critters’ did not belong to any one
member of the family but were a part of
the whole family. A large variety of dogs
and cats came into my life and left again
and each were missed and mourned
when the time came for them to leave this
world for the next and each left a
cherished memory behind.
Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
