Great storytelling
Philip has again written a story that teaches those who are willing to listen. Bobby is a young man being raised by his mother. He is not very social: not athletic, not good looking, not rich. A trip to the races with his friend Billy and Billy's dad opens a door for Bobby. Billy remembers the fun he had when his family used to watch the Kentucky Derby and winning a few bets this night lights a spark.
He decides to learn all he can about betting on the horses believing in the easy money he could make. He meets an older man, Pops, who shares his wisdom. His social life improves while he is winning and he can help his mom out also.
We get to watch as things devolve. What happens? What is the "Other side of racing"? Get this book and see how one step can lead to a very slippery slide.
