“Haiku of a Wayward Sailor” is the first book I’ve written in 8 years and my first sojourn into the world of writing poetry. As strange as it may sound, I didn’t choose the haiku style, it chose me. I was reading a western when the dolphin haiku began taking shape in my head.

Once that one completed itself, others followed. Some so quickly I almost didn’t have time capture them.  All in all, it took less than two weeks to for the 46 pieces to be completed.

One part of haiku that appeals to me is the simplicity of its 5-7-5 syllable structure. Another part is that haiku demands concise word choice. Not getting the right word means the concept or theme of the piece is lost. Through six books, short stories, and articles I’ve written well over a million words. So, needing only 17 syllables. to complete a piece is a wonderful change.
