Marnell couldn’t wait to get home, she didn’t
care about cutting the loop on, she didn’t care
about getting rid of the phone that she had last
used, everything about what was coming home to
roost way heavy on her mind. Marnell’s motherly
instincts tried to come in to play, which confused
her even more. She didn’t love that child; she
didn’t even know her, but somehow she wondered
what the child’s life would have been like had she
been aware of her birth—had she just been sober.
Marnell ran back to her bedroom and snatched
every bit of clothing she had on off. She didn’t
care if it ripped she just wanted to be free of
anything that reminded her of her evening. She
lay down in the bed and pulled the covers up over
her head and cried. She knew that she was in an
awkward position because she had given the girl
life and now she had to take that same life away
by any means necessary just so she could have
some sense of normalcy in the storm of her life.
She knew mentally that she was going to have it
ruff for the rest of her life after this was all over,
and the thought of it made her heart ache. Marnell
let the tears flow as much as they were going to,
because she knew tomorrow and in the day’s to
come she was going to have to do some things
that she had never done before.
