When the musicians began to play a fox trot, Jake came over and took Ettie's hand. "C'mon kiddo," he said, "you're gonna dance this one with me."

Suddenly Ettie felt a hand fall heavily on her shoulder, and she nearly stumbled as it pulled her back. She turned to see Morton, his face dark with fury, yelling at Jake. "I'm not gonna let you break up my family."
