What would your life be like if you had no secrets?

Illusive Secrets provides a doorway into our own self-deception and the unnecessary suffering it creates. This candid and empowering demonstration of self-honesty invites us to change our lives by finally meeting our true selves so that we may come to know the happiness, joy and freedom we long to experience on a daily basis.

In Illusive Secrets: Discovering the Power of Self-Honesty, James Patrick McDonald demonstrates the power self-honesty has to change our lives, and he asks with tender compassion if we have the willingness to meet our true selves.

With each secret he discovers, McDonald inspires us to look inward as the means of transcending our fear-based state of consciousness. His candid demonstrations reveal thoughts and experiences we all have, but very few of us are willing, or able to explore. Each self-deception McDonald uncovers empowers us to look at our own lives with transformative honesty.

Uncovering our own illusive secrets gleaned from his examples leads us to the realization that we are responsible for our suffering, and it is never the external causes we are taught to blame. We begin to understand that our thoughts, judgments, and need to control, are directly related to our personal happiness and sense of inner peace.

Illusive Secrets offers a doorway into our own self-deception. While our initial glimpses may be frightening enough to evoke steadfast resistance and blinding denial, each experience softens that resistance and intensifies our desire to continue. We grow in self-awareness with each step, coming ever closer to the happiness, joy, and freedom we long to experience.

Illusive Secrets is a profoundly spiritual approach to a better way of life that facilitates our journey toward the expression of love on a daily basis.  It teaches nothing directly. Instead, it offers examples that inspire those who are willing, to follow an honest path of increasing self-awareness leading to one final destination: Our true self.

You Made Me Mad

A friend said something to me today and I felt angry. I felt my body recoil as I blamed her and what she said as the cause of my anger. My brain scrambled for words in reaction to ego’s screaming, “Defend yourself.”

I said nothing. Instead, I attempted to stay in the feeling of anger and quickly discovered that the anger was not responsible for my desire to react, as it appeared to be. By actually feeling the anger, it lost its value, dissipated, and revealed a feeling of hurt at the core of my experience. Once I realized that the feeling was ‘hurt,’ or a sense of diminishment that was responsible for my reactivity, I was able to ask myself, “Am I somehow less right now than I was before the friend’s comment?” The answer was an obvious no. I remained exactly as I was before the comment. Nothing had changed other than how I experienced myself based on my interpretation of the remark.

In that moment, I believed I was vulnerable and unworthy, as evidenced by my initial feeling of hurt and the subsequent reaction to defend. I believed I was less than I was the moment before the comment and I lost all sight of Essence, or the true ME, which is invulnerable and eternal.

In that moment, I gave someone else power over my inner peace.
