The border between Texas and Chihuahua in 1910 is a hotbed of intrigue, and armed rebellion festers along the Rio Grande. John Wesley Padget, coming home after fifteen years to see a dying aunt, finds himself swept up in a scheme to smuggle a load rifles and ammunition across the border. Mexico's notorious Rurales patrol the boundary, and anyone caught helping the rebels is stood up in front of an adobe wall and summarily executed.
A historical based upon actual events that took place in the early stages of the Mexican Revolution. The people are real, only some of the names were changed.

Tomás Urbina sat on the ground, leaning against his saddle drinking mescal. Lying around him in various positions of repose six men watched closely as Urbina contemplated the man standing in front of him. A seventh man was cooking over an open fire.
He tilted his head back and drank deeply from the bottle of mescal. He considered what to do about the man standing in front of him. The man was a fool and had disclosed the location of their home base to Griego’s foreman. And that meant that the federales would soon have the information and would be waiting for them to return. They could no longer go home. Why did God allow such stupid men to exist?
