Matthew Allen David is five and a half years old and is starting Kindergarten. He is anxious to go to school to learn about all the things he doesn’t already know, but also a little worried about making new friends. His mother reminds him that everything will work out if he always remembers who he is and whose he is. He’s Matthew Allen David – a child of God.
There are many new things he learns at school. But, when his teacher and his Kindergarten class disappear after a trip to the bathroom, Matthew must remember that as a child of God, he can talk to Him anytime, and He will always listen. After meeting Estelle Rogers, a new, elderly friend, Matthew and Estelle remind one another that everyone is a child of God, no matter their age.
Through Matthew’s many funny adventures, he makes new friends and learns valuable lessons about life at school, and most importantly about being a child of God.
EXCERPT
There was a lot of crying out in the hallway. I thought it was still John until I saw some lady dragging a little girl into our room. Boy, that girl sure was upset! Her feet, legs, and bottom were outside the room, but her mom pulled her by the hands so that her top half was inside.
That mom finally got her inside. And, you know what? That girl sat down on her mom’s foot and hugged her leg. I guess that crying girl really didn’t want to be in Kindergarten.
Then, I noticed that the mom was scooting her leg with the girl on it over by me. Oh no! That girl’s chair was the empty one beside me! Kindergarten suddenly seemed a whole lot noisier.
