How many times have we heard words to that effect issued by government officials, corporate CEOs, school principals, and even pastors or bishops and others in positions of authority? In this response, usually to some kind of news media investigation, the leader uses two of the Devil’s favorite words – mistake and responsibility. We’ve already talked about the Enemy’s use of the word mistake. Let’s look at the other one – responsibility.
To take responsibility for a bad act is to admit the act was bad, to undo its effect as much as can be done and to accept the just consequence of this admission. How many of those leaders who “accept full responsibility” for an action follow that admission with a resignation? Few. Most simply “accept the responsibility” and go on as if nothing has happened. There are no adverse consequences to their bad acts and, in many cases, they are rewards for their “forthrightness” in the announcement. How evil!
