Something unusual is happening to a tree in New Zealand. Apparantly, it is screaming and disturbing the local sheep ranchers. At the other side of the world in near Cancun, Mexico, another tree is also making unusual sounds.
Lincoln McKay is a botonist living in Tucson, Arizona. One day he is summoned by an old friend of his father. The man takes him to a small Mayan Indian village in the jungle. Together they investigate the talking tree that the natives worship as "Yum-Kaax," or god of the forest. Here he meets an anthropologist named Cascade Alexander who is studying the local culture. She and Lincoln work to determine the cause of this amazing event that eventually has worldwide implications.
When I wrote ths book in 2000, I was concerned about children having access to the Internet and to chat rooms where "you can be anyone you want." Here we are many years later and the situation with children talking freely to stangers on the Internet
