A collection of poems written in 2005, to celebrate the city's honour of being the European Capital of Culture in 2005.
This book is now free to anyone, who wishes to contact me for a copy.
Each poem is illustrated to highlight the different aspects of city life. The illustrations are mine and caused me great frustration so much so that I decided to never do illustratons again.
Themes of the poems range from cafes, to people to favourite and historc places and also those place and things, which we don't always see.
In the couple of excerptss, you can see the wide range of ideas flowing through the collection.

Finbarre's and Before
Stone-faced listed buildings on Dean Street
Cast smallshadows on their opposite neighbours,
Elizabeth fort stone still standing,
Two pigeons on moss and ivy laden walls
Bob in dating dance,
As St. Finbarre's cathedralled spires
Battle their way to the heavens,
Encouraged and heralded by St Michael's golden figure.
Past Carrigbaree accommodation and before Proby's bistro,
Iron black gates invite the wayward and the wont,
And through its glorious apostolic entrance be welcome.
A Buttery Exchange
Daily intercourse of symbolic gestures
Reaped the benefit of economic structure,
A magnetic force to draw farm labours
To market and gain on butter,
A creamy mixture blended in the farmer's yard,
A branded idea that sailed the seas
To foreign shores and international acclaim.
Today we hear the ghost staccato shouts
And faint echoes of rumbling carts
Under the shade of the frontal portico
And admire the modern craftwork within.
Sun Rest
The rest period has arrived,
Our feet sweat under the hill-strain,
An upward struggle in the life of the hill,
Where we all like to make it to the top.
This is our Croagh Patrick - city style,
A test of our city nerve and endurance,
One foot in front and then the other,
We gain and lose in feet.
The large houses wink encouragement,
And then the top is within reach.
O glorious St. Patrick, the view,
The view is miraculous and revealing
The city in its dust and river sparkle
Spreads before us in a constant visual feast.
St. Patrick pray for us,
And... thank God for the car.
