Duct Tape Isn't Enough is an essential resource for first-responders, trainers, educators, journalists, coaches, therapists, and all who realize the critical importance of adaptability in the face of tragedy and crisis.
Released in September 2009 as a training guide, Duct Tape Isn’t Enough: Survival Skills for the 21st Century integrates the novel Reaching Home into a series of modules used to help teach individuals survival skills.
Included in the training guidebook are activities to help readers reflect on their own situations and help them plan and build the skills and attitudes that can increase resilience
Excerpt
We know that the skills and attitudes defined
through research on resilience can be learned and applied and can assist individuals in adapting to and surviving difficult
times. Training in resilience may reduce the frequency and intensity of post-traumatic stress disorders and other health
problems that occur after a national or a personal disaster. Such training may allow our society and the individuals and
families affected directly to recover more quickly and completely. Just as we know that reinforcing a bridge may make it
stronger and less likely to be washed away by a flood, we know that reinforcing an individual's coping skills, their
resilience, can make it less likely that they will be overwhelmed, washed away, in the same flood.

"Duct Tape Isn't Enough" is a beneficial book that allows the reader to identify his or her own story of life and the trials and tribulations we all encounter. The message is one of hope, of learning and applying skills we can and do use when encountering stressful situations. Life's adversity causes us to pause and consider next steps to select actions we may take. We all require assistance in our life and we also can provide help to others. The book provides skills and techniques all people should have in their personal tool box.

Dr. Ron Breazeale has created a unique way of teaching people about resilience. Whether one uses it for one's own development, or as a group training manual, the structure of the material allows for adaptability. I recommend this, too, as a way to teach adolescents and young adults the resilience skills they need as they make their way through the world.

For more than twenty years I have been periodically treated for bouts of depression and panic attacks. Dr. Breazeale's book, "Duct Tape Isn't Enough," is proving to be a tremendously helpful and enjoyable resource that I am using in conjunction with my therapy to get me over a few rough spots that have recently surfaced in my life.
It's certainly true that no one can escape adversity and misfortune. Our resilience, i.e. our response to these problems and setbacks, is what determines whether or not we will lead successful and rewarding lives. As I work through the story and the questions after each chapter, I am constantly fine-tuning the Eleven Skills and Attitudes that can increase resilience. I am improving steadily and accomplishing things that hadn't been possible for me for years. At this time, I am enjoying a sense of well-being, which is the flip side of panic and depression.
Dr. Breazeale's book is a great resource for anyone attempting to fight depression or stress in their lives. Believe me, I know
