His fur begged to be stroked and rubbed against. “Oh,” Jewels whispered, embarrassed that she was ogling the Crown Prince of the Gatoan Empire. She couldn't seem to stop herself. Dex's eyes glinted with mischief and other things. This female was different from any other. So fragile, yet he'd seen her soul and knew her purity. He was fixated on her. “Am I pleasing to you?” He surprised himself, and her, by asking. But it was true. Dex had to know. Jewels gulped and managed a breathy, “Yes.” Dex grinned and moved closer. “I want to touch your...skin. So different from fur.” “Yes,” Jewels agreed, her mouth dry. She wanted to touch him, too, and bury her face into his fur. “Little human, you are unique.” He touched his paws to her face and felt a slight shock at the contact. He ignored it and enjoyed the smoothness of her skin. His touch was electric, literally. She felt the jolt and then everything went quiet in her mind. An inner voice warned her that they needed to stop, but Jewels wasn't listening. “Dex.” She raised a hand to touch him and paused, uncertain if he would welcome it or not. He smelled her growing arousal. He saw the hesitancy. Did not females here take what they wanted when the heat raged in them? Dex took her hand, felt her stiffen and waited for her to relax before placing it on his chest. He purred when her fingers tangled in his fur and she caressed him. Dex looked in her eyes, eyes that had changed color to the emerald green of the forests on Felinia, and saw that intense longing. That hungry need. Dex was confused. She shouldn't be this desperate if her bond-mate was taking care of her. He frowned and Jewels flinched. She dropped her hand and backed up, breaking the connection. “We shouldn't! I, I can't. Please forgive me!” “Wait, little human!” Dex called, but she'd run away. Frustrated, he glared at his paw as if it could provide some insights.

Jewels is a telepathic human woman with a unique disability: she has to have an “anchor” - another teep - to place a protective shield around her mind. She adores her current anchor, Jeremy, like an older brother, but he can only serve as her protector for so long before his abilities will be drained in the process. It’s just her luck when the Milky Way galaxy makes contact with the Gatoans, an alien race of feline telepaths, and their heir apparent, Dex, matches just what she needs. But the Gatoans have their own share of enemies, as does Jewels, and keeping her newfound anchor and lover might be a difficult task indeed.

I had fun reading Jewels. The characters are entertaining and there’s some really nice interplay worked in, especially between Jewels and Jeremy. I liked the setting of the book, though for readers looking for more “serious” science-fiction universes, I would note that the novel has a light-hearted feel on the most part, even though there is heavier content worked in. I think the setting is the cause of this - it isn’t bad, by any means, but it falls in nicely with the world of the fun B-movies out there. On the other hand, there are shades of the best in sci-fi television series in Jewels as well; the book has a lot of elements that make good space-drama what it is, and I certainly can’t fault it for that.

On the whole, a nice outing; I enjoyed reading Jewels and look forward to seeing whether the author has any more adventures in her universe planned for her readers.

Special Lieutenant Jewels Enbran is a special young woman who has incredible telepathic abilities. Some would call her a freak, but they would be wrong. She’s been tasked by her government with a special mission. Aliens have responded to a space probe and they are about to visit Earth. She’s asked to test the aliens to see what type of telepathic abilities they might have. Little does she know what reaction her small inquiry would make.

King Renten LoudRoar and his son Crown Prince Dex LoudRoar of the Gatoan Empire are the first to step off their space ship. They are humanoid, but are comparable to Earth’s lions. As they are welcomed to Earth, Jewels makes her move. Things don’t go as planned, and she quickly catches Prince Dex’s awareness. Once she’s has drawn his attention, he won’t easily be dismissed. Things really start happening after that. Turns out there are a lot of people who want Jewels.

Jewels is Ms. Spletzer’s debut novel and she has a WINNER! She draws you into her story and holds your attention to the very last word. She’s included mystery, intrigue, romance and so much more. Her characters are well developed and everyone brings a little something to the story. Jewels is a young woman of only 19, but she’s already experienced so much in her life. Colonel Jeremy Lingley acts as her anchor to help her control her gifts. He’s also her mentor and the closest thing to family she’s ever had. Dex and his people have amazing powers of their own and he’s ready to claim this “little human” as his own. But before he can do so, he’s going to have to woo her. Why are the aliens so interested in Earth all of the sudden? Will Jewels fall for an alien? Can an alien and a human even become mates? You’ll have to pick up a copy of Jewels to find out. Trust me, it’s worth your time.

King Renten Load Roar and Crown Prince Dex Load Roar, Gatoan royalty, are traveling with a delegation to Earth. Renton hopes to find out whether the Earthlings will make good allies against the Lupines. The Lupines, a wolf-like race, have been encroaching on the Gatoan worlds and causing much death and destruction. Because of this, the Gatoans, cat-like aliens, hope to find allies among the Earthlings. Special Lieutenant Jewels Enbran, a psi ops operative, is sent to determine, if the Gatoans have any psychic abilities. This goes badly and Jewels almost dies, but Dex helps save her. There is a connection between
Jewels and Dex, but the government, the Lupines, and, even, Renten might stand in their way to finding happiness together.

JEWELS is a very enjoyable futuristic with interesting characters and an intriguing plot. Jewels and Dex are trapped in a situation, which is not exactly what it seems. There is much subterfuge and many characters have hidden agendas, and unfortunately, Jewels seems to be the key to many of the plots. Jewels, who is very young but has a great inner strength,is tired of being a pawn. Meanwhile, Dex, who is very protective of Jewels, is torn between his need to be diplomatic for his people and his need to protect Jewels. I love the whole concept of the cat-like aliens and really didn't see the interesting twist at the end coming. Hopefully, Ms. Spletzer will write another book set in this very imaginative world.
