After five years of research, I wrote Alexis' story and I am amazed at how many people have contacted me over the years because of this story to say they are in, or know someone who is in, the same situation. Most recently I was contacted by someone from Nashville whose sister-in-law was murdered by an abusive man. This book is controversial because it advocates women leaving/divorcing men who are abusive which goes against some beliefs. There are churches who preach women must stay with their husbands regardless of their behavior because God hates divorce…I disagree with that. This book is not a book to read if you are having minor marital problems; it is a serious horrifying calculation diving into the mental pathways of mental illness, abusive men and the women who are vulnerable to them.
