Eric wasn’t sure what he was hoping for as he turned off of the highway, heading down the back roads that led to the family cabin he and his brother had inherited. They had made extra keys for their cousins on their Mom’s side of the family, all of whom lived out of state. But they were the principal owners, responsible for the upkeep and the taxes. And they were the ones who kept their personal belongings there, who kept the fridge stocked with beer and food, and the ones who took turns spending any vacation time they got in the one place they could truly relax in--their home away from home.
Was he hoping to find the place deserted? That would allow for him to have a relaxing weekend--sleeping late, and looking at the bikini-clad girls on the beaches. Or did he want her to be there? With all that would mean? He would have to listen to her talk about the man she had almost married, and the reasons that she had run away from him. And he would vacillate between insane jealousy of the man who had recently been having sex with her--and a vague feeling of superiority that she had run to him this time, not away from him.
But what would that really mean? If she ran to him, did that mean that she wanted to see him? That she missed him? That she would finally admit how much he meant to her? Or did it mean that she viewed him as a harmless eunuch, who would let her cry on his shoulder, then pat her awkwardly as she made up her mind to return to the lifestyle her mother had been grooming her for since birth?
And do I care? Eric pursed his lips as he made the last turn that led to the private driveway. Of course I care. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have driven ninety miles an hour to get here, so I could see if she still thinks of this place--of spending time with me--as her shelter from the storm.
He looked with interest at the small car parked on the beach side of the cabin. It had Illinois plates--a hopeful sign. When he got close enough, he peered inside. It appeared to have someone inside of it. Asleep? With all of the noise that a Harley makes? He was grinning as he pulled up to the other side of the cabin, parked, and turned the motor off. He got off of the bike and stretched, his muscles cramped from riding for the past couple of hours. Jerkily he strode over to the car to examine it more closely. He saw her head lolled back, and heard, through the open windows, the sound of her snoring softly, but steadily enough to be heard over the sound of the lake.
So you did think of this place. And me. He almost chuckled with pleasure, before deciding against waking her up. He went around to the front door of the cabin and let himself in, to go in search of a cold beer to wash the dirt of the highway down his throat. He got some burgers out of the freezer to thaw for dinner, and spent some time thinking about what on earth he was going to say to her when she woke up.
(Pamela, meanwhile, is dreaming while she sleeps.)
Pamela moaned as she felt her excitement building. She was on her stomach, facing the bed, and being most gloriously pleasured by someone who really knew what he was doing. His hands were wrapped in her hair, and with strong, sure strokes, he withdrew, then entered her again, each time almost pushing her over the edge into screaming oblivion. She wriggled her ass appreciatively, and felt him shudder. He regained control over himself, and the withdraw-enter rhythm resumed. She was so busy concentrating on her own feelings, that she didn’t care who it was doing the work, as long as it continued.
This is a dream, but damn, what a great dream! I wonder who this fabulously satisfying man is? The realization that she was dreaming allowed her to take control of the action. Determinedly she pushed herself up, in order to turn around to see whose face she would be looking at--just who this mystery lover was that had her so hot that even in her dreams, she was dripping with heat and anticipation.
Reluctantly pausing while she turned over, the man bent his head down to lick, then suck at her nipples, one then the other, as she re-positioned herself under him. With an upwards thrust to her hips, she signaled her desire to be pleasured even more, with a full view of his face. He moaned, then thrust his hips forward to slam himself into her. Pamela fell over the edge into an extended multiple orgasm. Squeezing her eyes shut was the only way to concentrate on the feelings, to prolong them and make them more intense. She screamed as she rode the waves of pleasure, feeling herself clenching around the magic wand that this magician was wielding, feeling herself totally under his spell.
Finally she was able to breathe again, and she remembered that she was dreaming--and that his face was only inches from hers. All she had to do was open her eyes to see who the man of her dreams was. She opened her eyes to look at him. He raised his head, long black hair streaming down from his face in sweat-soaked strings, shadow of a beard darkening his face, and his blue eyes pierced through her heart. Eric? Even in my dreams?

We meet Pamela - the bi-racial daughter of a prominent Chicago attorney and his social-climbing wife - on her wedding day, but she’s not a very enthusiastic bride. It seems her intended, an up-and-coming Chicago attorney named Daniel, has a Bluetooth growing out of his ear, lest he miss an important call from his firm. Pamela has always had issues with being ignored for who she is and whom she wants to be, and has made a habit of running away from these situations. She only wants Daniel to treat her as the most important thing in his life for this one day, but when he can’t, she flees the church and runs away again.
Her hasty retreat sends her back to Eric, her old high school boyfriend, who always claimed to love her. They rekindle some glowing embers, but will Pamela stay with her first love or go back to Daniel’s starched white-collar world? Do both men in her life love Pamela for who she is, or do they have darker ulterior motives?
Fiona McGier’s style is easy to read and she has done a good job showing us the conflicted backgrounds of the two main protagonists, although Daniel’s story is a bit sketchy. Her scenic descriptions are atmospheric and the characters are, for the most part, well-defined and believable. Although her sex scenes aren’t explicit, you’ll have no trouble figuring out what’s going on. The finale is satisfying but not sweet enough to send you into a diabetic coma, which fits this type of story.
Ebony Dreams says, 5 stars--What a romantic read!
Pamela is about to marry the man her parents think she should marry and she does the only thing she can do in this situation, and that is run. Run as fast as she can and as far as she can into the one man's arms that were always her refuge when something was going wrong in her life. But she has run from that man far too many times.
The runaway bride has forever been a theme that romance readers fell in love with and Fiona McGier did it justice. The plot was developed properly so that everything that happened within the books pages was believable. I fell in love with the main characters, Pamela and Eric, and definitely cheered them on to find their happily ever after.
It is refreshing to read a book where the hero knows who he wants, and how he wants them instead of having the woman chasing after him with him denying his love for her. Thank you Fiona McGier for that. How refreshing. This book had heat and spice as well as its fun moments, and it was a book that I could not put down. The pace of the story was fast and kept me interested enough to keep turning the pages.
I also loved the fact that the two main characters roles were switched in that the hero was the one who didn't have money and came from humble beginnings instead of it being the female. The dialogue is cute and flows well so that you can follow everything being said and the conflict keeps your attention.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a true love experience, filled with steamy sex, fun characters and a great plot all bundled up in a wonderful little package.

Veterinarian Pamela or Mel, as she’s called, walks out of the church where she’s supposed to be marrying Daniel, an up and coming lawyer, because as she’s walking down the aisle on her father’s arm, she sees Daniel answer his cell phone.
Furious because his business comes before her, even on their wedding day, she runs away, back to the man who was her first love, and whom her mother decreed wasn’t good enough for her. Ten years later, she is still in love with him, but there has been a lot of water under that bridge. Can they find the love they once had?
Mel figures she has to see Daniel in person to tell him that no matter what her relationship with Eric, she won’t play second fiddle to Daniel’s law practice. She then sees a side of Daniel that almost costs her her life. He drugs and rapes her repeatedly, so that she will get pregnant and be forced to marry him. He doesn’t count on the persistence and love of Eric, who convinces Mel’s father that she’s in danger. When they find out that Mel’s mother, Maribel is on Daniel’s side, the betrayal is complete.
I liked all the characters here. Maribel is so deliciously misguided and willful, that she makes the evil witches of fairy tales seem tame by comparison. The only thing that makes her better than the witches, is that she’s not so much evil as self-centered, and her love for Mel makes her think she’s acting in Mel’s best interest.
Eric is much maligned and stoic in his love of Mel, and even after ten years apart, he still holds onto the hope that someday she’ll come to her senses and realize she loves him. Daniel is the ambitious/evil one, who will stop at nothing to further his career. Although I thought he should go to jail for what he did to Mel, I guess in a way his punishment fits his crime.
Eric’s steadfast love and willingness to help Mel at all costs is what finally wins her father over, and then it’s clear sailing for the pair.
When Sophie Bayles inadvertently ruins a young man’s chance for employment, she sets out to find him a new position. Even though he doesn’t want her to.
