Some of our patients stand out in my memory only because of brief remembered incidents.
There was the radiologist in his fifties. One of the lab tests that were done on all our patients was a test for microscopic blood in the stool. This required that they provide a stool specimen in a container, then inform the nurses when this was accomplished so we could perform the test.
We all have some idiosyncrasies...odd little things that disgust us. Providing a stool specimen was apparently one of those for our radiologist. He was quite indignant when informed of this, insisting he was not going to engage in such demeaning behavior. He stopped just short of refusing to do the test, which would have been within his rights. When the time came, he presented the nurses with a handful of toilet tissue in which there was a small amount of stool.
