For many, Mother’s Day has countless meanings. For some, it’s a special day designated to pay homage to the one lady in their life that means the most to them. However, for many other’s, Mother’s Day is a day to express their most treasured thoughts of appreciation, and to reinforce an unconditional love. And although Mother’s Day has many meanings; it’s a special day mother’s around the world are nestled in love from both family and friends.
Surprisingly, Mother’s Day was first introduced in 1868, when a lady by the name of Ann Jarvis, took it upon herself to establish a specific committee to recognize and honor moms. In fact, its first idea name was “Mothers Friendship Day”. [1] In addition, this day also commemorates those families that had been torn apart during the Civil War.
Interestingly, in the early 1880’s, the Methodist Episcopal Church in Albion, Michigan elected to set the second Sunday, in the month of May, as the official traditional day to honor all mothers. [2] Moreover, it is also believed that in 1904, Frank E. Herign, the President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; made the first known public plea for a national day to honor all mothers. [3]
Yet despite these historical meanings; Mother’s Day should be a day when you unlock your heart and relinquish all doubt that you have been blessed. Giving thanks and honor for all that she has done and everything that she still do.
