“It means we are the eyes of the earth. We are connected to the creation
that is why our ase is strong from birth. It is a rare thing.”
“So being connected to the oog di-whatever tempts you with power?”
“It’s a seduction, like a kiss, when one feels the very essence of a god
writhing, dancing beneath the skin, teasing the flesh. You are not tied to the power that races through you, but you’re close enough to feel it pass. Like the smell of your favorite perfume, it calls to you. This seduction is twosided, because all power that lingers just beyond this world wants to exist, to live and breathe through lungs of fl esh, so the presence of those with the
oog van die aarde is just as attractive to the spirits.”
“Like some kind of pheromone?”
“Being in heat is the closest thing to the tie between the spirits and the
oog van die aarde. It is why those born with it are highly sought after for the Bembe. The spirits come to us quickly.”
“How does this oog thing help me become some key?”
“Haven’t you ever wondered why it is you were always such a good detective? Why is it that the blood, or an article of a victim reveals everything
to you. The memories of the victims become yours? You almost never have
to ask, unless you want to know something specific?”
“Yeah,” Russell said, a little reluctant, but eager for the answer.
“It is the oog van die aarde. The spirits are the mediators between us.
They distribute justice and watch over their charges. As a police detective,
you do the same, and as one born with the abilities of a god, it is in the
earth to give you what you want.”

This book was amazing. I thought about writing a well constructed review filled with lots of fluff but I opted for the more direct approach. If you are tired of the Dan Browns of the world and are looking for a novel that can and will transport you to a world where myth and realty collide this is definitely the book for you. I look forward to seeing how this author develops throughout the next several years.Happy Reading. world and are looking for a novel that can and will transport you to a world where myth and realty collide this is definitely the book for you. Imminent Darkness is part crime novel, part sci-fi and totally fun. Former cop Russell fights a lonely battle against the very blood in his veins. He holds nothing back to protect his family from an intricate plot to annihilate his bloodline. The complex world of modern Voodoo and lust for power are expertly spun into a dark yet irresistible tale. Can't wait for the sequel.
Grab those side-irons, saddle up and join former Civil War sharpshooter Luther Henry for a ride into pure terror, western-style…think ‘Wild Wild West’ meets ‘The X-Files’.
