 As if looking outside herself the scene unfolds in slow motion.  Learesse sees the elegant teacup filled with the soothing herbal tea fall to the floor shattering the beautiful stillness of her early morning ritual.  

 The prickles on her neck told her she was not alone.  She knew this day would come.  She expected it, dreaded it, and yes, deep in her soul she yearned for it, this, her day of reckoning.

She looked directly into the chocolate colored eyes of her best friend, Joileen she killed almost 200 years ago.

  She shivered under the scrutiny of those hateful eyes.  The eyes that caused her sleepless nights and days filled with anxiety and dread.

  "No...No...."  She sat up in a fiery sweat totally drenched.  The dream was so vivid causing her to look around her room.  At first glance, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.  

She froze!

 That smell!  The smell that was burned in her subconscious filled the air assaulting her nostrils with its tangent flavor - marigolds!

Suddenly she sensed someone in her room. The apparition at the foot of her bed could not be, but it was Joileen.  She knew from the icy stare Joileen would show no mercy for the love they once shared.

  Her time was up.   "How fitting for us to stay together - even in all eternity" Joileen garbled.

 With a heavy heart,  Learesse signed, yes, it was time, time to end the years of waiting, wondering and knowing.

 "You thought you escaped, got away with my murder Joileen whispered in her ear.  Well you didn't and how fitting I'm your executioner, Resse.

 She felt Joileen's breath against her throat and  wondered why it was cool.

  How could it be that Joileen was the one sent? 

After all the years of waiting, she realized just how tired she was; tired of the fear that consumed her soul, tired of the anxiety that had stolen your youth.  But most of all, she was tired of waiting - because she never doubted she would pay.

Yes, she knew this day would come...

She closed her eyes to wait.
