I’m having a bad day and it’s hot. My name is Jennifer,” she offered while wiping sweat off her face with the bottom of her shirt. “Yeah know, you shouldn’t ride when you’re in a bad mood. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy,” he said, looking clean, cool and in complete control. It’s hard to be humble and glare at the same time but she somehow managed it as her mood swung from one extreme to another. “I didn’t start out in a bad mood. He did, however,” she explained, pointing to Laddie who was projecting the look of innocence and devotion. Just a poor majestic equine forced to endure an inept rider’s demands. If a giant cross had appeared next to them, her long suffering horse would have crawled onto it. “It’s never the horse’s fault. It’s always the rider’s. I’m Steven Dunne, by the way,” he said, still slightly amused. She could feel Laddie gloating, and she wasn't sure what Steven was so damn amused about. Who the hell is this guy? Jen took yet another deep breath to steady her temper. At this rate she was going to hyperventilate. Steven might be tall, attractive, and smell enticing but she didn’t trust her temper or frayed emotions to come up with a civil response, so she turned her back to Mr. Perfect and began leading Laddie to the shed-row barn. Steven followed uninvited, offering to open or close gates as they went. Jen watched him unlock the last gate, noticing his tight ass and muscular thighs. “I’m married,” she blurted. Oh my god. What’s wrong with me? Had she said that out loud? He turned and looked at her as one eyebrow rose in a silent question. She supposed he was waiting to see if there was more to that abrupt confession. Her legs felt wobbly. She wasn't sure if it was the result of her lack-luster riding and the heat or her body's response to this irritating man. His staring was making her heart beat overtime. She tried to swallow, her mouth suddenly going dry under his scrutiny. She could feel the electric current crackle and arch in the air around them, much like the building charge of an impending thunderstorm. Time seemed to slow, punctuating the moment, then there was a shift. It was subtle, but she recognized it immediately. “I’m sorry. I must be suffering from heat fatigue today,” she said lamely. Fate – that’s what she felt. Like tumblers falling into place or dice coming to rest. She could almost hear them settle, first one, then another. In that moment, she knew her life was going to change. The crow, unnoticed on a fence post, sat watching, cocking its head one way then the other. “I’m sure you’re fine,” he said, smiling fully for the first time. The smile lit up his eyes, making them more golden than hazel-brown just as time resumed its measured march forward. “Oh crap,” she mumbled to herself.

Evocative with a touch of Darkness
If you love paranormal romance without the fluff,this is the perfect book. There was nothing predictable in this love story and I enjoyed the courage and honesty of the heroine Jen as she made some potentially painful decisions.Tarrant Smith does an outstanding job of blending Celtic folklore and Pagan practices into a contemporary love story. There are a few noticeable editting errors but they certainly do not detract from the story. The author has a unique voice
and the characters are creative and often complex. The character Huile is fascinating and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series...

If you are a Karen Moning fan, you'll love Tarrant Smith
A friend told me about a friend who had written a book and published for the Kindle. As a fan of independent authors, I checked out the book description. And, truthfully, the description doesn't do it justice.

Jen, the heroine, doesn't fully understand her heritage. In Enchanted Darkly, you journey through her rediscovery of her talents and her discovery of real happiness. You find yourself rooting for her and Steven. You will worry over Hueil's motives. You will want to destroy Barrett yourself. But it all ends wonderfully and gives you a peek into what's to come in the next book, Bound Darkly, which I cannot wait to read.

I fail to understand why some publisher hasn't picked up this author.

Loved it!
This book was an extremely enjoyable read. The characters were well written and the story line unique. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
