"The Fate of Wolves, by Tarrant Smith, is the second in The Legends of the Pale series. From cover to cover, Smith delivers insanely well-drawn characters and enough moments of levity to keep this paranormal romance moving along at a brisk pace. Never does Smith's work lack. As the author bounces from one subplot to the next and back, she keeps readers on their toes and deeply involved with each of the main characters and their tragic lives.

Eva is simply amazing. Smith's descriptions of both her wolf and human halves and how the two are often at odds is captivating. I am oddly fascinated by characters who choose to isolate themselves, and Eva is a prime example. There is so much to be explored in characters like Eva whose mental anguish is so tangible.

I would be remiss if I didn't address Smith's opening lines. It's not often that I rave about the beginning of a book, but in this case it's a must. From the first sentence, Smith had me hooked. I am not always one to pick a fantasy, but when I do, I lean toward those with characters who shape-shift. There comes with these characters a certain fascination that I don't get with those in other fantasy novels. The mere mention of werewolves is enough to catch my eye, but Smith snags readers like me from the opening paragraph when she states that werewolves are, indeed, not mythical.

Smith has a unique take on settings. She places her clan in present day. At first, I was a bit taken aback, but I realized as I read that it completely works. It's not the fact that their human halves are technologically savvy that makes or breaks a book of this genre, it was the inner turmoil of characters like these that makes them timeless.

Anyone who enjoys down-to-earth main characters in their fantasy series will be taken with Deegan and Eva. The entire cast of characters created by Smith is deserving of readers' adoration for that matter. Humor is a big part of Smith's writing and adds to the depth of her characters. I highly recommend this book to readers across genres-it's a must-read."

"Tarrant Smith has written an intriguing book with The Fate of Wolves. I love the mythology and the history of the wolves. Deegan seems like a tortured soul who strives to do good. The dialogue between them was entertaining and well written. A lone female werewolf isn't a unique idea, there are other stories on the market with a similar theme, but I think this could do quite well with fans of those books. Having the dual sides to the story gave the reader a wider scope of what was going on too. The story was well written and it flowed well. It kept me reading. I enjoyed the interactions between Deegan and Eva. I think that this would do well in the paranormal romance category and in the supernatural category too. I would recommend it to fans of paranormal romance and supernatural stories in general."

Howling Fun
The Fate of Wolves by Tarrant Smith is one of the better supernatural genre books I have read. I have found myself to prefer werewolves to vampires. Since the whole Twilight thing I have been turned off to vampires, and yes, I have read them. The Fate of Wolves is not teen supernatural romance. It has a more complex and historically exciting story line. In this book there are not only werewolves, but gods and goddesses, gypsy curses, and an entire supernatural secret community known as The Pale, that must be hidden, protected, and managed. In the modern world that includes book keeping, expenditures, allowances, and a trust fund. Oh to be a supernatural.
As the result of a gypsy curse 5 men are doomed to become werewolves. It is because of their heinous crime (raping a young gypsy girl) that they have cursed not only themselves, but their male offspring for generations to come. When a curse cast in rage inadvertently curses one of their own the six werewolf packs are formed. With the cursing of an innocent surely there must be a way to break the curse. How long must the sins of the fathers be paid for by the sons? What happens when the wolf inside one alpha calls to another that was never believed to have existed? How complicated and dangerous will things for the Volkov pack become when the Alpha of the Azoulf pack arrives on his lands in a state of confusion. No one is more confused than the Volkovs. Eva Azoulf should not even exist. So, what is she doing in the Alpha's bed claiming to have answered the call of his inner wolf? I hope we will hear more from Tarrant Smith concerning the Packs.
