Werewolf Descent is the second book in the Last Witch Series.
Last witch in the world, Faith Scott, and her Irish vampire boyfriend Trent have just come back from fighting for their lives to recover the Vampiric Blood gem and Werewolf Moon gem. Thinking they could finally relax and work on the romance growing between them, they now meet a mysterious psychic vampire named Vincent who has his heart set on being with Faith.
Soon bizarre killings of Zou Tai's werewolf pack begin, with rumors of an alchemist possessing the famed philosophers stone being the assailant; which, causes Faith to turn to Vincent for help in figuring out why the werewolves are being murdered.
It isn't long before all those around them test Trent and Faith's love, along with their abilities, once again. It is all Trent can do to keep Faith safe by his side while both go up against a deadly alchemist, deceptive gods, and having to rescue the werewolf prince; yet, after a deal with the God of Werewolves will Trent be able to save himself too?

"Werewolf Descent" by Elizabeth J Kolodziej is the second in the 'Last Witch' series, following on from "Vampyre Kisses". Faith, the last witch in the world, and Trent, her loving Irish vampire boyfriend, have moved to live near New York for peace and quiet after their last exciting adventure. But along comes Vincent, the psychic vampire. Instead of feeding on blood, he feeds on auras, on energy. This is a very original twist to the paranormal genre and one that works extremely well. Vincent needs Faith's energy, and he is also after Faith’s heart, in the nice way, although that is not nice for the loyal Trent. Faith is altogether too quick to find the newcomer attractive. It has to be said that she is not the most likeable character at times, although she is always lively and fascinating. A love triangle develops. Elsewhere, werewolves are being kidnapped and their prince, Zou Tai, comes to ask for help. An alchemist is involved too. There is action of all sorts in this book.
This is a constantly snaking story, twisting and turning and never predictable. It is narrated by three different characters: Faith, Trent and Zou Tai. This works very well and lends interest to the story with the insights we gain into these three people and how they perceive each other. There are many other fascinating characters in the book, Oran the cat being just one example. Another clever touch is the weaving in of Greek mythology with the paranormal. It is an entertaining and confidently written book, and we remain eager to know what happens next.

‘Werewolf Descent” picks up after “Vampyre Kisses.” In this tale, Faith Scott, who is also the last witch in the world, is trying to discover who is killing off werewolves from Zou Tai’s pack. It appears that an alchemist’s magic is at work in these attacks. Faith relies on the help of her other paranormal friends to help her solve this mystery. In doing so, she puts her own life and relationship in jeopardy.
Faith is madly in love with Trent, who is also a vampire. Otherworldly creatures, who get involved with trying to stop the killings, also help complicate Faith’s relationship. First of all, she goes to a vampire slayer, who also happens to be an old family friend, to get information. This does not make her vampire boyfriend happy. Then Vincent, a psychic vampire, becomes involved. Vincent has a serious attraction towards Faith. She is also attracted to him, but frequently reminds herself that Trent is her true love. Adding more to the excitement, there is also great deal of deception and magic involved in with what is happening around them. At the heart of the matter is a manipulative god who feels that it is in Faith’s best interest not to get what she wants.
“Werewolf Descent” is an incredibly imaginative, well-written novel. I enjoyed being introduced to new types of paranormal creatures including the psychic vampire. I also really loved Faith’s touching relationship with her magical flying cat Oran. The variety of paranormal elements, included mythology, make this book an interesting and unique find. Even though this the second book in the series, I feel that the author did an excellent job of filling in information about the past events and characters, so that new readers will find it stands well on its own. Fans of paranormal adventures will be delighted to discover this series.

It isn’t long before all those around them test Trent and Faith’s love, along with their abilities, once again.
Werewolf Descent was a fascinating and action-packed read. Elizabeth did a fantastic job mixing old myths and legends with her own imagination, creating something entirely her own. The book was fast-paced and never tedious; the story drew you in and kept you reading, desperate to find out what happens next. On top creating an excellent story of love, lust and magic, I was surprised by how much Elizabeth’s writing has improved since Vampyre Kisses. In the first book the characters weren’t all that believable to me, but this time around they were much more real and more likable as well. Faith especially, she’s a strong-minded and independent women, but not unrealistically so, she isn’t the overdone badass female lead found in so many books nowadays. She’s strong, but still a human woman who makes mistakes and has heavy emotions and desires. So the author gets point for having some great characters, she also gets point for taking risks with this book. Not many authors would have been willing to take the story where Elizabeth did, but she went for it and in my opinion it was fantastic.
While I loved Werewolf Descent there was one big issue I had with the book. At times the dialogue was a bit forced and annoyingly cliché, there were parts where I literally groaned and rolled my eyes at what the characters were saying and doing. Fortunately, these moments were limited and didn’t ruin the book for me. But I would have loved it if the dialogue had been as unique as the story itself.
Overall I loved Werewolf Descent and I can’t wait to read the next book in the Last Witch series, especially since this book ended on a HUGE cliff hanger. Knowing Elizabeth she will continue to improve with every book she writes, so I have no doubt that the next one will be even better yet.
