The following families seek kinfolk from Doonal without regard to age, race, creed or any of the constraints with which limited imaginations have long bound their people. These families believe that blood ties still connect them to kinfolk on Earth. Calyr and Calyryn are sensitive to clairvoyant dreams and telepathic communications, even when vast distances separate the parties involved. Due to the opening of microseaholes, these telepathic communications have burgeoned.
Read over the families' biographies and the names of living members. If you harbor blood ties with one of them, you may sense this kinship. If you feel no stirrings of Elf blood, no worries! Most of the people on Earth will not hear their call. Perhaps in the future, when more Faerland families seek kinfolk, you will find one that tugs your heart. Until then, enjoy our story and join us as Doonal friends, rather than kin.
Several notable differences exist between the two cultures. Firstly, marriage ties bind families together more securely on Faerland than they do on Doonal. When a woman marries a widower, for example, she becomes his children's mother in every legal sense. If the widower later dies and the woman remarries, the man she marries must also assume the role of parent to the children that the original widower sired. It may be confusing to a Doonal dweller, since a parent refers to these children as their children, despite the fact that all parties keep the names they received at birth.
This holds true for grandparents, sisters and brothers, etc. In the case of one of the families listed, a woman married a man a century older. She became the legal grandmother of his grandchildren, despite the fact that the grandchildren were older than she. While these introductions would evoke raised eyebrows on Doonal, they are normal on Faerland. For easy reference, we list both the late natural parent and the current parent for all of the main parents' entries, where applicable.
If you align yourself with any of the following searchers and earnestly seek to become part of their family, you may display their clans, colors, symbols and mottoes for as long as you maintain the honor, chivalry and honesty that is Faerland. Anyone who attempts to parody, degrade or undermine the Faerland spirit may not use any information contained within this book.
Relationships listed in the families below are your relationships, if you decide to affiliate with a particular family. In other words, if someone is listed as an "aunt," it means that she is your aunt, if you sense a familial connection to that family. Only living members are listed in this volume and cousins are omitted, due to space constraints. These may be published later. However, a few notable deceased ancestors are included, to showcase the family's contributions to Faerland society.
