No one will ever say that Tony Choufati lacks imagination. His far-reaching thriller, Incubus Immortal Seed, defies the traditional sub-genres of contemporary fiction. Predominantly science fiction, it also incorporates elements of military theory, technological research, sex, religion, and all out suspense. Choufati has worked in the field of computer science since the early 1980’s, and he has inevitably drawn on his vast knowledge in this area to create this convoluted, fascinating tale.
Incubus Immortal Seed takes place in Britain in the year 2047, forty years after Armageddon and also following a UN resolution to ban technological advancement after the year 2007. This new world enjoys peace and serenity, brought together by the synthesis of faith and religion, but a constant sense of unrest threatens the integrity of this unbalanced civilization. What could be missing from a world without war or strife? Human emotion, passion, enlightenment, and…sin. So the world in 2047 seeks the intervention of a wise leader to restore what they desperately need. Sir Harold Chapple is just the man they’re looking for, but boy does he have his work cut out for him.
The problem: the UN resolution against technology has been breached. The British secret service knows about the secret DNA research being conducted at the Mein-Welt laboratory, and knows that new genetic molecules are being used to create new DNA. But why, and for what global application? Chapple and his lover, Arielle, must put together a team and find the missing microscope and DNA jumper within twenty-four hours. And not to put any further pressure on them, but the entire planet is at stake. Colorful personalities and the unlikely pairings between characters help to season an already spicy plot, full of conflict, obstacles, and that ever-tantalizing “ticking clock.”

Genetic engineering or cloning terror? Forty years after the final battle between the rulers of the world, Sir Harold Chapple, a British billionaire lord, is torn by his conflicting beliefs. Sir Harold, or ‘Duke’, chose to defend the new world order as the supposedly peaceful revolution took a turn into a more violent aggression dominated by militant militia leaders. An overwhelming vote by the United Nations banned any advancement in
technology after the year 2007. Now, forty years has passed since
then… since Armageddon changed the face of the earth and her people.
Since then, peace and satisfaction has reigned, both in political
circles, and religious. Unfortunately, such peace and contentment has
propagated nothing but boredom and a lingering sense of discontent.
The spice of life went missing - the spark that forced humankind to
excel, to strive for greater purpose in life… and to care about
others. And this missing element? Why, sin, of course. The search has
begun for someone daring enough to reinstall that which is missing in
the world of 2047… emotion… feelings… pride, in addition to
competition and discovery. What the world needs is a man capable of
restoring the feelings and emotions of the good people of planet
Earth.
Sir Harold Chapple, better known as 'Duke' by those close to him, is
just such a man. But his task is by no means easy. Danger, betrayal
and death await him at every turn, as does the uncertainty of his
future, and most especially, his future with Arielle, his protector
and lover.
Incubus Immortal Seed is an ambitious work from author Choufati. The
premise is captivating and the plot unique. Colorful characters grace
each chapter, as do a plethora of desires, goals and subplots. Mr.
Choufati is certainly a gifted storyteller, and will become an author
to watch for in the near future. His ability to take an unusual
premise and make breath life into it is a rare treat for those wishing
to read something a little different. His desire to create memorable
characters is also to be admired, and though his main characters, Duke
and Arielle, can at times be of 'superhero' status, they are also very
human, with faults and problems that bring them down to earth for the
reader, who can find within them something to relate to. If you're
looking for a sci-fi or futuristic novel that offers a trip into the
realm of very real though fantastic possibilities, this is a read for
you.

One of Duke's recruits, Mullah Fila-Farnaz Tarazi is provocative and beguiling but a cold-blooded, ruthless killer. Assassin Saleem abu-Hamza and an explosives expert, Meir Goldbloom make a dangerous addition to the team. Add to this a physician, nicknamed "The Butcher of Madrid" and a scientist who has perfected cloning and the team of unlikely partners is complete. Each of the characters has an underlying conflict or agenda, further complicating matters.
Choufati's convoluted novel defies easy classification. It is a hard-boiled novel of mystery and political intrigue, with scientific overtones. It contains religious connotations yet is comprised of violent and sexually explicit scenes. Holding his readers' attention are the quick twists and turns of the sometimes, frightening plot.
Incubus Immortal Seed is Tony Choufati's second novel. Reference is made in this story to his previous book "Sealed". His experience in Computer science adds validity to the technical aspects of the novel. This suspenseful book shows the author's literary skill and imagination.
As a reviewer, every now and then you find a book that has everything: multifaceted characters, vigorous-pace, flamboyant descriptions and twists and turns that surprise and excite.
