Hazel visits a fortune teller at a local carnival. He tells her fortune, and she is very unhappy with her reading. As she leaves the carnival, the rest of her night starts to unfold into a series of events that change her life for good.

Oddly, Hazel’s car had broken down at 13 Misfortune Lane in Shadowville. She had never heard of this town before in her life, let alone been there. She wondered how she managed to get so completely lost so quickly.

I really like this short story. The title caught my attention right away. I liked it a lot because there is so many people that act like they don't have a heart and its fun to imagine that this could really happen to them. A good short read. The author is very good.
