IT WAS A COLD SPRING morning in Williamsburg Pennsylvania. I had just put in my retirement papers at the state mental hospital. It was time for me to make the best use of my golden years. Using my Dodge truck (1994, a vintage year), I drove into the outskirts of Williamsburg. The lease was up on my apartment in Harrisburg and it was time to buy a house. Even though the average age of the residents of Williamsburg was only thirty-seven, I knew that pursuing my first love of studying paranormal activity at some of the old mansions of Williamsburg would immediately catch my interest. Most of the mansions in Williamsburg belonged to the owners of the booming brewery business. Many people of society were not quick to believe that any paranormal activity existed in their towns.
The first place that I stopped at was an old diner where many of the residents of Williamsburg meet for coffee. The newspaper stand had the Sunday paper, an ideal accompaniment for my coffee. The diner looked like it was built in the early fifties. It had that theme of the old rock and roll, which made me feel right at home. Being born in 1950, I had missed most of the fads of that era.
While opening the door, a blonde woman greeted me. She did not look like she was past thirty years old. She appeared to be around five foot six and around one hundred sixty pounds. Serving as a consultant with the state as a paranormal specialist had enabled me to profile anyone that I saw very quickly. She poured a cup of coffee with a smile as I sat down.
While looking at the front page of the newspaper, I noticed that it was March 20, 2009. Where had this year gone? Just yesterday, it seemed like it was January. The front-page article immediately caught my attention. The new owners of the Oxfire Manor have mysteriously vanished without a trace. The locals are baffled as to where they had gone. Did they flee the manor that was previously owned by William Oxfire of the Oxfire Brewery? Was any paranormal activity to blame? This was the first thought that came to me my mind.
After reading further into the article, I realized that it was time with meet with the realtor. I quickly pulled out a five dollar bill, slapped it on the table, and left Arcadia Diner. The server smiled as she picked up the bill that gave her a three dollar tip after the price of the coffee.
Feeling the brisk wind at my face, I shut the door to my truck and drove to Oxbury Estates. From my description of what I was looking for, the realtor had told me previously that she had found a house that I could not resist. Forty minutes later, I pulled up to the entrance of Oxbury and was greeted by a woman standing there in a suit and tie.
“Are you Chad Hilton?” She asked.
“Yes I am Chad Hilton and you are?” I said with an excited feeling inside my heart.
“My name is Yolanda Burton from Burton Realty.”
“You told me that you found a house that I couldn’t resist.”
“Yes, after hearing the description of the house you are looking for, I think that we have a match.”
“Don’t hold me in suspense; show me the house.” I had butterflies in my stomach.
She asked me to follow her in my truck to go to the house. She and I drove at least three miles into Oxbury Estates. Yolanda pulled into a house that immediately caught my eye. To my luck, this house was located right across the street of Oxfire Manor. Was it in the cards for me to study the disappearance of the new owners of Oxfire Manor?
