LAYLA THE LADYBUG – BULLYING by Darlington Johnson is the first published book in the “Positive Solutions to all Kids” Series. The character, Layla, who relates and demonstrates on the level where children can understand and learn, is the focal point of the book series.
LAYLA THE LADYBUG – BULLYING is a great teaching tool for children four to nine years old. Layla was created to give children a friendly character they can identify with. She is an ordinary-looking ladybug with unordinary-looking spots that put her in a vulnerable position because she is learning how to handle bullies.
LAYLA THE LADYBUG – BULLYING emphasizes the importance on how to handle a bully and feel absolutely fantastic about yourself. Layla learns and shares with the readers to focus on loving ourselves and ignore the bullies. Layla the ladybug is another example on how children should handle the negative remarks from their peers. Just “smile”, and let it go in one ear and out the other.
Through the eyes of a little ladybug, author Darlington Johnson encourages children to take a positive approach in dealing with bullies and communicates to children using the character Layla the Ladybug and colorful illustrations, Darlington was able to give an example on how to have a positive outcome and how to handle the challenging emotions while interacting with a bully. Darlington wants young readers to keep in mind that when they set their minds to do something, if they keep trying, they can eventually achieve it and overcome the bully.
Darlington wrote the books based on personal experiences and from the challenges of other children. Her goal is to continue the sequel, using the Layla character to help encourage children by shedding some light on how to approach a dilemma with positive solutions.
