Story of animal abuse and rescue on a small ranch in middle Georgia.
General Jerry, the Golden Retriever, hears a woeful cry in the night from across the lake. He and Bandit, the sergeant Jack Russell terrier, set out to rescue Shep from his evil owner, Clem.
During this adventure, then encounter King Luke, a mute swan, who patrols the lake. They also enconter Vinnie the Viper, who Luke scares off.
Once finding Shep, Jerry and Bandit, plan a rescue and escape. However, Bandit is shot by Clem, so the rescuerers now need rescue themselves. The other dogs and Jessica come to their rescue when they hear the shots. Jerry puts Bandit on his strong back and swims across the lake when Vinnie the Viper attacks them. Bandit puts himself in between Jerry and gets bitten.
After the rescue is over, Bandit dies. Jessica learns to deal with her grief as do all the other dogs. This is an exciting story with a moral ending.
