Saboteur by Ann Massey is an engrossing suspense/thriller centering around the adventures of Beth Godson, a young woman living with her family at the Katoomba sheep station in northwest Australia. Her relative normalcy is impacted by an international crisis affecting the global community. An international space station has been sabotaged, the vessel plummeting back to earth at an unknown location. Eventually Beth's region is evacuated and she crosses paths with Mo, a runaway juvenile offender. They come across W.C. Hogg, an agent of the Seek Energy company trying to locate the crash site. Only the teens learn of the true nature of the space station and Hogg's ulterior motives in retrieving its contents. It turns into a pulse-pounding contest that makes this a guaranteed page-turner.


Massey sets up a what-if contemporary backdrop as the space station becomes a clandestine site for chemical weapons research. Her personal input as an Australian native gives readers an authentic atmosphere, from the endearing Aussie slang in the dialogue to the vivid descriptions of the fabled Outback. The romantic angle develops gradually as the pristine Beth finds herself caught between juvie delinquent Mo and hardcore criminal WC. It's a Bermuda Triangle along Skull Cave Creek that suspense/thriller lovers and young adult fiction readers won't want to miss.

This is my Second Time Around
I read this story several years ago as a book for young readers. I enjoyed it but felt there was more to offer. I was right. The author has now modified the first book for the more mature reader and promises a series to follow.
