The door burst open and the room filled quickly with guards. Captain Terance came in last, finding the King on his knees begging Tamea to marry him. Terance had known for over a week that he had lost Tamea to the King, but it still did not settle well to see him proposing.
He crossed the room and filled Tamea in on the reason for the interruption. "Someone had broken into your downstairs suite, leaving it a shambles. But whoever it was had to leave quickly since Aspen had chased them out. There has also been a breech in security on the grounds outside the King's bedchamber." Terrance signaled the guards into the King's rooms as he talked with them. He continued, "A guard had been killed before Aspen was able to alert the palace guards about the intruder."
Terance spared a few moments to notice that Tamea looked so stunning tonight in her yellow dress. He envied the King.
Tamea pulled out the knife from her glove and made a move toward Parker's room, but Terance held her back.
"You are the Princess tonight; let your trained forces deal with this. Your position as a colonel is over until the agreement with Altare is solidified." These were Commander Jayson's current orders. They were not to allow Tamea to do anything until this marriage agreement was signed and sealed for the sake of their two countries. "You are now being targeted for assassination, Tamea. Jayson had received information this afternoon that led him to believe that you are the new target, since either way this went," he pointed from Tamea to Parker, indicating this relationship, "you were still a risk because Walker had shown an interest in you as well, but apparently you have stepped up as the main target."
The sergeant leading the sweep of all the rooms in the Ambassador wing briefed Terance on their findings. He came back to the couple, informing them of the new plan. "We are going to move the two of you away from these quarters. Your rooms are no longer safe for either of you." No matter how Terance felt about Tamea, he would never risk her life just because he was jealous of the King. "We are keeping the two of you together until tomorrow morning's council meeting. Now please get what you need from your suite, your majesty." The King was guarded by four of Tamea's special force personnel into his rooms, leaving Tamea standing basically alone with Terance.
