"Amanda". The conviction behind her thoughts was quite a rush as I felt it, too. The adrenaline, the sensation of a mighty captain going down with the ship, the pride, the heroism...quite a turn-on. I stretched and caught her and forced her head toward mine so I could kiss her forcefully, turning her urge to cry to an urge to seduce me, and she balanced on the very edge of the mattress, clinging to me, tasting me, when something unnaturally cold brushed my jaw and I turned enough to see a dying bit of purplish haze and larger strands of it drifting toward me from behind her. I jolted, and she fell, her head landing nicely in my lap which under other circumstances might've lead to her tasting other parts of me, but I was distracted by the sight of Haines sitting bolt upright on the next bed, a soft glow of purple visible about his mouth and nose each time he exhaled, and then the strange, cold fog was gone and I realized I was looking at a stranger. "Alex?" mumbled Dorreen, reaching for my shoulders to help pull herself upright. I drew her to me and held her tightly, protectively, while the man who looked like Haines looked at us blankly, then began to smile. She growled at him, "What do you think you're lookin'-" I reached up and covered her mouth. "Mmurum!" She tried to blurt through my fingers, thinking I was toying with her. "That's not Haines!" I hissed at her. "Mm?" I let go of her mouth and she remained in place and stared at the guy, still not certain what I was talking about. "Haines?" The figure shrugged apologetically. "He emptied his mind. I filled the vacuum." With that, Haines got up and walked past us toward the door. "Haines!" I held her tightly as she sought to go after him, only releasing her once the man was out the door. Dory got to her feet and scrambled for the exit, barking her shin on the chair I'd left there, cursing, then throwing the door open wide. "Oh, God, Alex! What happened? He's possessed now, isn't he?" I got up slowly and approached her. "He fell asleep." "He wha-" I drew her back into the room and closed and latched the door. "Listen to me. They don't know him. He's not a threat. He fell asleep. That's what he was talking about. He emptied his mind. I'm psychic, I know that's what he meant. Dory, if either of us falls asleep, they can control us." She was pale and her eyes were open wide. "Well, then what? We can just wake him? Somehow?" I shook my head. "An alien has control of him. I don't know how we can get him back. That must be how they took over Moncton...they must've just been there...like ghosts or something, and then as the people fell asleep, they were attracted to the empty minds. I bet that's how they did it. Kind of...by accident." "Aliens took over by accident?" Excerpt "When all else fails, brute force can do wonders."

I want you to stop what ever you are doing and run, don't walk to the nearest available book dealer and demand a copy of this book! I am actually quite miffed that I'm finished with it already and I don't have any of the other stories about Alex Roglitz in hand. Alex is a xenophobic psychic who just happens to work on the police force dealing with… you guessed it, aliens. What did the aliens ever do to him, I mean seriously? Well they abducted his mom for starters, that would be guaranteed to miff almost anyone.







The only thing Alex detests more than aliens are the Quasars he is teamed up with. Quasars are the ghostly manifestations of dreaming people who have fantastic powers because they don't realize they are dreaming, the dream is reality and reality a dream. (I don't know about you but I see infinite possibilities in that concept.)The only drawback to the Quasars is their short and unpredictable lifespan. Now his friend and boss, Mike, has devised a new torment for Alex; Amanda, the first ever physical Quasar. Together, they fight crime…literally, and with the universe to play in trouble runs rampant







Quasar 169 is a wonderfully written set of short stories that come together to hint at a whole. I am quite smitten with the overall story and the characters within. E.D. Detetcheverrie has me hooked, not only with overall writing style but also with the little tidbits of what might be yet to come.
