Jerold M. Lowenstein, a young octogenarian at 88 may be the last person alive to have seen the 1946 atomic bomb underwater explosion at Bikini. He was a young officer aboard the USS Albemarle, the naval ship that transported bombs and Los Alamos scientists to the South Pacific atoll under the auspices of Operation Crossroads. He is slowing down a little after a career as a physicist, a nuclear medicine physician and a pioneer researcher in the field of fossil molecules. He has written one novel entitled “The Dark X.” After resting his pen hand, he has fabricated this fantastic tale of mystery and mayhem that takes place in 1946, an exciting time in our Atomic history.

AND NOW A WORLD is the most fascinating book I've read since Jerold Lowenstein's prior novel, THE DARK X. Although this is listed as a book of fiction, Lowenstein's background in physics comes shining through, and you will learn more about nuclear physics, presented in a lucid, easy to understand manner, than you ever dreamed possible.
This novel weaves together the mystery of some unexplained deaths taking place against the background of the early years in development of the U.S. nuclear weapons program at Bikini and Los Alamos, romance between a brilliant young physicist and some irresistibly lovely ladies, intrigue, ethical issues surrounding the development of nuclear weapons, and last but not least, poetry. Yes, this is the first time, to my knowledge, that a novel uses poetry as an integral part of the storyline. Two key characters recite poetry to each other at intervals throughout the book, the content of the verses interwoven seamlessly with development of the story. The author seems to be steeped in poetry as deeply as he is in physics - a combination which, along with romance and intrigue, keeps the reader spellbound.
Once you pick up this book, you won't be able to put it down.
