In the modern age the art of homemaking seems all but lost, with everyone wanting convenience and instant results. Women used to pride themselves on their homemaking abilities; now they are more interested in careers and having someone else raise their children. I am personally not opposed to this as it is a personal choice; but on the flipside children do benefit from having one parent or the other raising them.
This series of books is aimed at those who wish to choose homemaking as a career; don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t. Being a homemaker is not sitting around all day watching Soap Operas or other daytime television; it is a lot of work to keep a household running efficiently. I have worked outside the home, and still had to do the majority of the household tasks when I got home from work. That is equivalent to working two full time jobs. There are millions of women (and men) who do this on a daily basis.
The inventions of the automatic washing machine, clothes dryer, dishwasher and microwave have made the household tasks simpler, but they don’t load themselves. These inventions also do not do the preparation or clean-up required to make them run efficiently. Wouldn’t it be nice if the dryer folded the laundry or the dishwasher put the dishes in the cupboards?
With the cost of living constantly on the rise, it is often essential both parents work outside the home. It is also in the best interest of the children that one of them be an at-home parent. With the numbers of troubled teens on the rise it makes one wonder what has happened to our society. This series of books will show you how to cut costs without cutting corners; skills everyone should possess, man or woman.
In addition to the skills and projects in this series of books, there is also a section included in each which will provide some home business ideas. This section (which is book content related) is aimed at providing the homemaker with some additional income, whether it be for daily living expenses or a family vacation. I know first-hand how difficult it can be to make ends meet on one income, and aim to help provide readers with the guidance they may require.
As I also contribute articles online, some of you may have come across some of this information before. My goal is to share what I know and have learned; this book (and the rest of the series) will reflect on many of those online submissions.
This book, and the rest in the series, is based on my experiences; what I know and what I have learned. Individual results may vary with each person’s interpretation of wording, directions or analogies.
I have purchased many books over the years, and a quick look around my home proves that fact. The books range from cookbooks to home repair, and almost everything in between. I love to read and learn new things; there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day. My mind is always racing at about 100 miles per minute as I think of all the things I need and want to do. I’m not sure if this is characteristic of other writers as well or if it’s just me.
I was told earlier this year I was a walking encyclopedia. I had never thought of myself that way before, but as I contemplate the comment I can see some truth to it. I have many interests and have done many things in my 40 plus years. I can usually come up with a solution to a problem; it may just take awhile sometimes.
Walking encyclopedia or not, this series of books will hopefully help me share what I know, have learned and experienced. Life choices have not always been right but had I taken the route that was expected of me, I would not be writing this series. I have always gone against the grain and done things the hard way. As my Dad puts it, “if there is a hard way to do something, Diane will find it.” To be honest, I couldn’t agree more.
