This eBook has a lengthy introduction on why and how travel writers need to be published online. It lists more than fifty travel websites that accept travel stories for publication.
Having this list of fifty+ travel websites will save you dozens of hours of research time. And it will help you advance your travel writing career in some very important ways.
If you do an internet search, you won’t find more than a handful of these websites. Instead, mega commercial sites like Expedia.com, Kayak.com, Priceline.com, TripAdvisor.com and Travelocity.com completely dominate. Although these might be great travel websites, none of them accept travel articles for publication.
So how did I compile this list? Mostly through something I call “writer’s osmosis”. During the eight years that I’ve been immersed in the craft of travel writing, I’ve collected this information – often without knowing what to do with it.
I gathered my intelligence from travel writing newletters and e-zines, by talking with other travel writers at conferences and on press trips and from many other sources.
The result is a red hot list of travel websites that are eager to publish your articles. You can jump immediately to the list of fifty websites starting on page 17.
But you might want to read the introductory material first, for tips on how to get published online, and why, as a travel writer, it’s important for you to do this.
Excerpt
There are a few reasons to publish your travel articles online. And I’ll be reviewing all of them in detail in this section.
The first one is important to novice writers, someone who has no bylines, or a very small number. One reason to get published online is to help build your bylines quickly.
When you’re just getting started in this game, it’s hard to feel like a real writer until you’ve had some articles published. And if you don’t feel genuine, it’s hard to convince an editor that you have something important to contribute to their publication.
Writing for online travel websites is the easiest way to get your first few bylines. It will help build your confidence, too.
The good news is, it’s never been easier to get your travel articles published. It’s far easier to have your travel stories published online than in print.
Print magazines tend to be very selective about what they accept for publication. Online editors are not always so selective. Even if your writing is in its “developing stage” you can usually find a place for it online.
If you have a reasonable topic, and are a halfway decent writer, there’s no reason why you can’t get your story into an online travel magazine. And, unlike print publications, it will happen quickly. Often within a day or two.
