Since the creation of the world of Alastríona, the disobedient gods have amused themselves by pitting men against each other for sport, but the day is approaching when the final conflict between the gods will take place to decide the fate of the world.
Arawn, Cerridwen, and Amaethon are born on the day that the two moons of Alastríona turn red and cross paths in the sky. This is the sign foretold in the Prophecy of Airmid, signaling that the time has come for the game of the gods to end. From the moment of their births, the three children are in constant danger. Orphaned while still babies, they are rescued by the elders Belenus, Tridamus, and Nemausus. Arawn, Cerridwen, and Amaethon are raised in secret to fulfil their destiny, but with no knowledge of the Prophecy or the other orphans. It is not until just before their eighteenth birthday that they are brought together for the first time and told of their role in the coming conflict between the gods.
They set out with the elders on a quest to find the Kingstone, a jewel created by the god Airmid. The Kingstone holds a secret that will either save the world of Alastríona or lead to its utter destruction. For Arawn, Cerridwen, and Amaethon, caught up in events foretold centuries before they were born, the Kingstone represents their destiny as the fate of the world rests in their hands.
They are constantly chased and ambushed on their journey. As they have to overcome the obstacles placed in their path, they come to accept and embrace their destiny. But they must learn to work together to escape from those who want them killed and to reach the Kingstone’s hiding place before it’s too late.
