Lacey and Matt have reached that time in their marriage where some of the "heat" is missing. They are struggling with whether or not to give up and go their separate ways.
Lacey was a particularly emotional woman at times and he tried his best to give her what she needed. Occasionally he screwed up. He’d obviously done that now, even if he wasn’t sure how or when. Give him a complicated business contract to create or read through and he could do it. But give him a woman’s idea of how things should work and he was lost. At the moment he was big time lost.

He studied her photo once more and reflected on the early days of their marriage. He hadn’t always been a stuffy, conservative man, who fitted his profession so well. There had been a touch of the romantic in him. It was time to find that side of him again.

He shifted away and climbed off the bed. “Guess it’s time to get up then.” His voice had lost any hint of huskiness, gone back to the flat tone of late. “Want to go run with me this morning?”
She wanted to kick her feet against the mattress, pound her fists against the pillow. She’d blown her chance to have him make love to her. Stupid, stupid, stupid! All because of being so turned on by that dream and then remembering how little attention he’d paid to her these last months. She should have let her irritation with that go, should have let him have his way with her. But, no, she had to let her bad attitude ruin a chance to finally get some physical release.
Irritated with the situation and herself, she grumbled, “Oh sure, I live for that.”
His thick eyebrows pinched in annoyance and he turned to stride into the bathroom without a word.
She listened to the door close and heaved a soul deep sigh, shifting to her side. What was her problem today? Why was she letting her frustration get the better of her? She was only making the growing chasm between them grow. Maybe she should go with him; maybe it would settle things down again. She thought about the few extra pounds she’d gained in the last couple of months. A depressing thought that made her sigh again. It would be more tempting if he jogged at a sensible time of day.
He opened the door and glanced at her. “I think you should come jogging with me.”
“Why?” She tugged the sheet up to hide her body, hoping he hadn’t zeroed in on those few extra pounds she’d been remembering.
“Because it’s good for you.” He stood there in the doorway, splendidly naked, completely at home with his body. And why not? He had the best six-pack she’d ever drooled over, and she definitely admired a man’s buff chest and toned abdomen—both of which he had.
