He looked up to the somewhat familiar face, he could see the man's mouth moving, he knew the man was talking, he could not hear what it was he was saying to him, he did not care. The familiar man soon turned, covering his own mouth and limping off with his wife in the direction of the 'Collina do Mar' Hotel.
The foul and acrid smell of the water he was trying to swallow seemed to rise up and try and take Vasil down with it, the water was from a puddle that had formed in the corner of the building close to where he was crouched over, it was filthy and no doubt was full of dog piss and crap. It tried to take him down to the depths of hell and maybe back again, if he was lucky, or unlucky, depending on how one looked at it. Vasil did not feel anything, no pain, no euphoria, no remorse, no feelings whatsoever. This was a place Vasil had been before many times in the past, but in a different way and surely he thought would return to again...if he lived through this one nightmarish day in a long line of days that had led up to this one.
There was however something very different about this time, it was not the alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs that had produced the violent purging of his digestive system. He had not had a drink, other than one beer about an hour ago, cigarette, or any drug in over eight months. Not since he had had the ultimatum from his girlfriend Sara. He did not know what it was that was causing this excruciating pain and violent vomiting. He only knew he wanted it to stop in the worst way. Either let him die now and quickly, or let it pass quickly, one or the other.
He did know that he was not the only one. That was for sure. In the past twenty four hours Vasil had seen many of his friends and others including tourists from all over the World go through the same terrible scenario...they all died shortly thereafter. Quickly folding up into a ball as they squirmed on the ground in pain, a final sudden jerk of the body, then a stiffness as the life drained from the once lively and unique person, and a stream of greenish drool oozed from their contorted mouth.
Jeff Martin, his friend, Hawk, and his dachshund dog are captured by Osage Indians. Eventually they escape and find their way home. Due to his unusual shape Adolphus is called a Spirit Dog.
