It is said that whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. The King of Ameron is a tale closer to truth than fiction of a land that has been given that warning. What happens to those who take heed...and to those who do not?

The continuation of the Ameron Chronicles sheds light on a land torn asunder by an evil within that is no less dangerous than the evil lurking in the shadows.  Brothers by birth, bound by the fire of circumstances, Thomas and Hank strive to save a reeling nation. But, to do so, they must accomplish the impossible!

Excerpt

She watched as the small party was attacked repeatedly. They were able to repel their aggressors while taking a few more strides toward the sheltering woods. With a critical eye, she watched the pattern of engage, retreat, and regroup repeat itself a half dozen
times. “Girl, those travelers down there must be exceptional fighters, or the brigands assaulting them aren’t worth a hoot in a hurricane.”
Her horse didn’t bother to reply.
“If I didn’t know better, I’d say they wanted them to escape.” She again rose in the stirrups, but this time, her gaze raced to the most likely place the small group would enter the wood line. A good-sized outcropping of boulders littered the entrance to a natural wooded spur. Lower ground to either side made it easier to defend and added greater protection. A thick grove of trees
and even thicker underbrush made it even better. “That’s where I’d go, an ideal defensible position…unless.” She shifted the mare to the left and looked closer. Her teeth clenched in immediate
understanding. “Unless it was already occupied.”
She saw movement within the area among the boulders and immediately knew it was a very clever trap. More of the brigands
waited for their counterparts to push the unsuspecting travelers into the supposed protection of the rocks and trees only to pounce mercilessly from all sides. The travelers would be surrounded and didn’t stand a chance no matter how skilled their blades.
The mare danced beneath her, mirroring her agitation. Mariella eyed the distance between the small group and the
spur. She quickly glanced toward the crag: no patrol. By the time Coby returned with his fellow rangers, it would be too late. A coldness swept down her spine. Without help, the strangers
below would surely die. Mariella shook her head. Their plight is sad, yes, but this is not my fight. It is not my problem; the One knows I have enough of my own. The One knows I have an obligation to do the right thing by the people of Evansheart, not for strangers who may be as bloodthirsty as the ones who harass them.
Mariella’s breath caught in her throat. A prickly thought moved its way to the forefront of her mind—a thought that had been there all along but was pushed to the corners by her dark
mood. She held her lower lip firmly between her teeth as she swiftly considered its meaning. Yes, the One knew—she knew—that she had an obligation to do the right thing…period! The
right thing was meant for all of humanity, not just those she cared for. Anyone could give sacrificially for a loved one; it took a deeper level of commitment to give of yourself for the sake of a stranger. She had to warn the people below. It was the right thing
to do. It’s what Thomas would have wanted me to do, she thought.
She tucked her strung bow low to her side and reached down to pat the horse’s neck. “Run hard and fast, girl. They don’t know it yet, but those people down there are counting on us.” She shot
a prayer to the One for protection just as she heeled her mount forward. Her last thought before hurtling down the hill at a breakneck speed was of Thomas. I wonder if this is how he felt when he charged to his death after that babe?
