. . ."With my eyes closed, I listened to the sounds in the gardens: bamboo stalks knocking against each other, leaves swishing in the wind. And then, I perceived strains of music, hauntingly beautiful music, playing in the distance. It sounded familiar, but I did not know the name of the composer. The closer I listened, the greater the impact on me. Little by little, I became totally absorbed in the music. Something within me, something as intangible as the music itself, was let loose, and it soared, searching, seeking out, yearning. I was mystified at first, but upon deeper introspection, I sensed that something sleeping in my memory was now slowly coming to the fore." . . .
