Lunaria's Hope explores the fragile relationship between Earth and its current and former colonies.
When President Maja Peterson of the Earth Coalition feels her power is slipping away, she enlists the help of the firm BioChip to develop technology that will create unyielding support for her among the citizens, as well as potentially creating an army of super soldiers.
"Lunaria’s Hope" follows the development and breakdown of relationships between Earth and its former colonies. Peterson’s main political rival in the Solar system is Lorraine Newcome, the current leader of the former Earth colony Lunaria. Her advisors on Earth begin to see her lust for power as a potential symptom of madness and look for ways to undermine her authority while protecting themselves and those they love.

When she heard the “Exterior Access Granted” announcement at her station Earth Coalition President Maja Peterson absently touched the buzzer icon on her desk. She finished reviewing the annual budget reports the Lower and Higher Committees had submitted as Cynthia Williams, the Interim Director of the Earth Intelligence Agency, walked in and waited for her attention. Williams was nearly fifteen minutes early.
“Please, sit down,” said Peterson smiling as she pulled up the necessary files for the meeting. “I wanted to go over the latest Lunar Colony field reports, but first would like to discuss your job performance thus far.”
“Y- yes. Ok,” stammered Williams. This was the first time she had met with the President since taking control of the Agency after the death of Director Francis Charles last month. She considered correcting the President’s use of the phrase “Lunar Colony” as opposed to Lunaria, but let it slide. Williams wanted to test the water a bit, as it were, and see how amenable the President was to questioning. She felt that acting frightened would allow her to see more of Peterson’s personality.
“There is no need to be nervous,” said Peterson slightly annoyed by the tremor in the other woman’s voice as well as the obvious hesitancy in action. She never understood why some people seemed to be either shy around those in power or afraid of taking the reigns themselves. Both women had worked in the Coalition for all their adult lives, but Peterson had always been more interested in the more tangible, direct line of power and decided to run for a Lower Committee position only a year after arriving at Headquarters. She won easily and continued to have success after success until finally being elected President, like her father.
