King Philip's War against the Puritans in 17th century colonial America was a bloody two year struggle to drive the settlers out of Native America.
More than three hundred years after the defeat of the Wampanoag, my people, I wander on the wind. Because I was not properly buried with the honor due a human beingnor given my peace I wend like the mist across the bogs and swamps of my home and my lands. It is true
what the wasichu say about me – I waged war on them relentlessly. I was feared and hated for whatI brought upon those who stole the land and poisoned the world. The wasichu came to my people in gentle humility, being afflicted people without a home.... and the Wampanoag made room for them. But the cruel manner of their ways and the dim world they believe above all others, is the way of the destroyer, as was their way from the time before they came to our
lands. The wasichu have no honor in them. They do not honor the ways of the Mother. That is because they honor only themselves. For them, war is more desired than peace. They shed the blood of children. They dishonor the mothers who bore them.
