Caroline Miller gives us the remembrances of a man from when he was a young boy in rural America of 1939. Through sketches of everyday life, family, relationships, good humor and anguish we feel a genuine love and connectedness to the stories and characters. The beauty of the human experience is discovered by the young boy and we get to revel in his ever deepening understanding. I was so moved by the first few stories that I had to put the book down for a break. Was I being so easily manipulated or was this beautifully told story really that good? After finishing it I decided that great art is in the experience of it and I had a wonderful, powerful experience. Bravo to Caroline Miller.
