Excerpt Macaroni and Cheese By: George Frederick Nash I stand at the edge of the field Taking in the smell of the summer breeze. In the distance my mother yells from the porch "It's lunch time. I made your favorite... macaroni and cheese." I take off and run fast as I can. Running so hard As much as my little feet can stand. I make it to the porch And jump to the top step. Embracing the sweet aroma Of love that is so heart felt. I run to the table to Take my seat. My mother says, "Stop running or you won't get your favorite treat." I stop running and walk fast. I make it to the table and ask for a big glass. She says, "What would you like to drink my impatient little son?" I reply, "Red kool-aid! That sounds like fun." With a smile, I begin to feed my face. Stuffing my little belly, as much as it can take. As my mom walks toward the table, I think to myself I am so pleased. Not because she is wonderful and beautiful. But because she made me macaroni and cheese.
