Silence can be a powerful force
the source of many a divorce
the solace for many an introvert
the bane for many an extrovert
these days I choose to enjoy it
close my eyes and relax a bit

Angry
The sound of silence
can fill a room
the atmosphere
clouded in gloom
anger permeates the air
not said, but its there
Silence
Your silence is provoking
the emotions your evoking
my anger is choking
my pride I'm stroking
Speak now or never
I'm not going to wait forever
nonchalance may ties sever
maybe your being clever
Silence not always golden
fills me with foreboding
my bad side its goading
come on, start scolding
Silence is Golden
Silence is golden
but sometimes rotten
retreat and haven of cowards
their nose pointing skywards
should leave their game-playing offside
sitting on the fence I can't abide
leaving things up in the air
its really not fair
think their being clever
but can friendships sever
so say your piece
a stress release
there's nothing that can't be solved
better than a relationship dissolved
Selective
You stand there, mute
its no longer cute
silence is your defence
when you can't make sense
when you've run out of lies
you shut down, I now realise
before I thought it was shyness
now I know its a cover for slyness
so, stand there, be quiet
I bid our relationship, goodnight
Real Friends
Real friends can sit in silence
no need for conversation
sometimes being quiet gives solace
a loving observation
A holding of a hand
a meeting of minds
a well-established bond
two of a kind
Happily Silent
I would like to be content with my own company
but often dissatisfied with me
to sit with me, silent
is an act I think I’d repent
I’m not confident in my opinion
in my comfort zone being a minion
of my own worth, I’m not singing
my self-esteem issues loudly ringing
My poetry makes me feel free
but I’m safe in relative anonymity
wish I could speak to my soul
whisper sweet-nothings, make it feel whole
I’m jealous of those that can meditate
being at ease with themselves must be great
I’d think someone was judging
from my set ideas, I’m not budging
Today I’m going to pat myself on the back
of self-praise and compliments, there’ll be no lack
raising my satisfaction level
then maybe in me, I can revel
Conversation
I don't need to wax lyrical
you don't look at me quizzical
we can spend many an hour in silence
won't look at each other askance
we've often never said a word
and I feel like it's the best thing I've ever heard
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help. Beautiful
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e
