At that moment, the nurse came in with a wheelchair to take Lori to therapy.
"Oh, no!" Lori said as the nurse pushed the wheelchair closer to the bed. "I'm never going to sit in one of those things again."
The nurse smiled at Lori and replied, "I know just how you feel, deer, but it's Dr. Steel's orders and I can't disobey doctor's orders."
"That's right, baby," Lori's father said. "Any way this will be the last time. You won't have to do it anymore. And you can come home. Just think of that."
"Okay, Dad. You're right. One last fling in the old thing won't hurt me."

"Oh, Al, I'm so glad you said the good doctor. I was beginning to think I was coming between you and Dr. Steele, maybe even ruining your friendship. After all we wouldn't have met if it weren't for Dr. Steele bringing you into my room that day."
That statement really snapped Alex back into reality. My God, he thought, what if she suddenly remembers how we really met? That can't happen right now, not before she realizes that I love her and all I've been doing has been for her.
