When corporate trainer Lysi Weston attends a conference in Sydney, Australia, g’day turns into a very bad day after her Harlem-born colleague, Grace Wright, stumbles on the battered body of a childhood friend. Determined to sniff out the murderer, Lysi embarks on a labyrinth of trails that lead her to suspect a womanizing cop, a suave Black businessman and a voyeur who videos his victims.
Handsome Detective Maynard Christie tolerates Lysi’s meddling in his case until it jeopardizes his investigation. He orders her to stay out of his way, a directive she ignores. Both irritated with and attracted to her he begins to long for the quiet life on his Outback sheep station.
What Lysi does not anticipate is Grace succumbing to the charms of the prime suspect. A second homicide leads Lysi to an unexpected rendezvous with the murderer who is set on eliminating the last piece of incriminating evidence–Lysi Weston.

Shortly before sunset, that time when shadows lengthen and outlines blur, an elderly man wearing a hand-knitted sweater, a bit too warm for the season and a hat set square on his head nearly tumbled to his knees when the cane he used to keep himself mobile hit a super size grocery can of something.
He righted himself just in time to prevent a fall that would surely have resulted in the fracture of a brittle bone or two. Uttering an expletive and ranting about the trashy people who scatter junk all over the place and care nothing about the neighborhood, he adjusted his cockeyed hat and hobbled on his way, eyes now glued to the sidewalk in front of him.
If he’d waited a moment, he might have heard a cell phone ring. He might have glanced into the shady alley and seen other scattered groceries. He might have even taken a few steps into the alley. Then he might have been a bit more tolerant because he would have seen a battered woman sprawled on the asphalt in the darker side of the alley where the sun had already passed. Two boisterous teens, pumped from an exciting soccer game in a nearby park ran by the same alley, saw the can and took turns kicking it on down the sidewalk as if it were a soccer ball.
The cell phone sounded again. This time a passerby stopped, squinted into the deepening shadows, followed the trail of groceries and disappeared in the alley. After a dull thud the passerby reappeared, shot furtive glances left and right then hurried down the sidewalk. In the alley, silence replaced the woman’s moans for help.
