Imaginary friends that go too far.
Moving into a new home can become quite stressful. For David, it is the
matter of juggling a new job, a mistress and a family at home. For Terry, it is the matter of making her new house into a home and recovering from a
nervous breakdown. For Tyler, it is the stress of a five-year-old trying to
fit into a new neighborhood with no friends.
A move can be quite difficult on a child, so much so that a way for the child to cope is to have an imaginary friend. This is where The Folks come in. You see Tyler not only has one imaginary friend but a whole group of imaginary friends that call themselves The Folks. Tyler meets The Folks the very first day he moves into his new room.
When Terry, Tyler's mom, finds out about The Folks she becomes concerned. But Terry's family, friends and even her own therapist tell her that is a healthy way for Tyler to cope with the move.
But when accidental deaths begin to occur and Tyler, with his imaginary Folks, happens to know more than they should, Terry begins to wonder that perhaps The Folks are not so healthy after all!

PROLOGUE
It is naptime. Even moving into the new house mom makes sure he does not miss his naptime. Mom would always let him pick out a toy to take to bed to play with until he fell asleep. Every day Tyler thinks for sure he will be able to stay awake during the entire naptime but some how he always falls asleep.
Tyler looks around his new room trying to figure out which toy to get. Most things are still in boxes; but mom has made sure he can still get to his toys. He likes his new room. He has a big window that looks out into the woods. As he is looking at the window, he notices a ray of sunlight landing on the exact toy he is thinking about finding.
"Thank you" says Tyler.
"You're welcome."
Tyler looks all around the room, "Who said that?"
"We did."
Still not knowing where the voices are coming from Tyler tries to move some
of the boxes around.
Wondering out loud Tyler asks, "Are you behind here?"
"No, we're in your sunbeam."
Tyler not knowing what a sunbeam is asks, "What's a sunbeam?"
"It's the light from the sun that helped you find your toy."
"Oh." Tyler walks over to the light on the floor and looks down into it.
"Hi, I'm Tyler, what's your name?"
"You can just call us The Folks."

The Folks
Ahh.. Tammy Vreeland where have you been. I am so glad to have a new Author to read! She took a spin on childhood imaginary friends that I have NEVER seen or read before! Love the visualizations in the death sequences, which were extremely creative! All I can say is GREAT!

The Folks
I had never heard of the author but chose the book because it was listed with other books you may like. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The story was quite different than what it is normal for today standards, it reminds me of books I read in High School...old school Horror. I was happy to see she has another book out as well and have it on order. If it wasn't for your recommendations I may never have stumbled across this author...I look forward to reading her other book.

The Folks
A fast moving story that is quite hard to put down. The author writes with alot of dialog that makes for an easy and quick read. The characters are very likeable and the story is quite interesting...I would definitely recommend this book for any one who likes a story that is unusual and keeps you guessing right up until the end.
