The sort of victims chosen by female serial killers further reveal a dissimilar typology from male serial murders. Male killers, usually acting as sexual predators, tend to mark adult female victims. Female killers, however, seldom choose their prey based on sex, and usually attack victims that are familiar to her, such as children, relatives, and spouses. Sometimes, if she does turn against a stranger, it is usually one who can be conquered easily, such as an older person under her care or even a child. The average age of the female serial killer’s first victim is fourteen to sixty-four. The typical female serial murderer commences killing after the age of twenty-five. The female serial killer is more multifaceted than the male and is often harder to catch. Since the definition of the serial killer is insufficient in explaining this quiet female killer, classifying her becomes a requirement in fully comprehending both her and the temperament of her crimes. According to FBI Profiler, Robert K. Ressler, both male and female serial killers may be classified in one of two groupings: the ‘organized’ and the ‘disorganized.’ The organized killer usually exhibits qualities of high intelligence and sociability, a stable employment history, normal sexual functioning, and an outstanding ability of controlling her emotions during the act of murder. On the contrary, the disorganized killer has average intelligence, underdeveloped social skills, a turbulent employment history, and sexual dysfunction. Although this evaluation might be helpful, it still sheds very little light towards understanding female serial killers. As female and male serial killers have very little in common, making classifications that apply to both sexes rather futile. Female serial killers usually come under any one of the following categories: Black Widow, Angel of Death, Sexual Predator, Revenge, Profit, Team Killer, Question of Sanity, or Unexplained and Unsolved.

I've already read RJ Parker's Unsolved Serial Killings, and mentally patted myself on the back. As a woman, I am not part of a sisterhood that slays the innocent! Well, as Women Who Kill taught me, evil knows no gender. My fellow women have shot, burned, dismembered, and sucked the very life out of a wide array of humanity - from men to children to their own sex.

Women Who Kill profiles more women serial killers than you could ever imagine exist. Some of the "highlights" include Caril Ann Fugate was the adolescent girlfriend and accomplice of spree killer Charles Starkweather. She is the youngest female in United States history to have been tried for first-degree murder! And don't think that Americans have the sole rights to these "bitches from hell" - Canada boasts Karla Homokla, who helped her boyfriend rape and murder young girls, including her own sister! Horrifying! The book doesn't spare details - the kinds of crime are described along with the methods, and where these women are today.

Don't read Women Who Kill before a first date with a new gal, or before bed! You will find your dreams infected with RJ Parker's evil women, knives in hand, ready to kill..

As a thriller author who has written about serial killers I have stumbled onto a treasure trove of books to help me with my research. All of RJ Parker's books are excellent reading material. Not only do they provide a glimpse into what is pure evil, but Parker has written his books in a way that draws you in and like watching a scary movie you find yourself wanting to cover your eyes, yet wanting more. You may also find yourself looking over your shoulder!

Women Who Kill is a journey into the minds of female serial killers--their motives, their acts, their thought process. Parker gives an overview and then delves into various stories about individual killers. I found myself horrified but also completely captivated.

As mentioned, I have downloaded all of his books for not only reference material for my own future fiction works, but also because the writing is tight, knowledge based, and fascinating.

RJ Parker's 'Women Who Kill' is an interesting and eclectic dossier on some of the nastiest female murderers ever. He has researched well and presented the reader with a collection of the more unusual and bizarre femme fatales than one usually finds in similar True Crime compilations.

I personally like the way that Mr Parker presents these cases as he usually pays homage not only to the victims but to the agencies and officials who have to burrow their way through these horribly brutal crime scenes. Now and then RJ will give the reader a piece of his own mind, as a reader I find this quite refreshing as most other accounts are so clinical and dispassionate.

I recommend this book as a good introduction to these unusual cases and will make sure I check out the other titles from RJ Parker. After reading the book I also visited RJ Parker's website and there is a lot of interesting info worth looking at
